P.S.186 MISSION STATEMENT

The educational community of P.S. 186 is committed to ensuring that all students strive for and achieve excellence in academics, the arts, and citizenship. We promote strong communication between the home and school to plan an instructional program that challenges and engages students' thinking and creativity through school and home experiences. Language, ethnic and cultural diversity are respected as enhancements to student learning. We encourage the development of partnerships with parents, community, agencies, educational organizations, cultural institutions and the private sector to support our students in their journey.

The P.S. 186 Instructional Focus

To foster a growth mindset in all students that develops their ability to self-regulate, to persevere through challenging problems, and to empathize with their peers in challenging situations.

We are proud to offer an ExpandEd school day to students in grades K-5.  Our NIA ExpandED Program will be in session for  students who are accepted into the program.  More information on Registration will be provided during the month of August through Operoo and the school Remind.    All students must complete an application in order to be considered for the program. The application can be found here: https://discoverdycd.dycdconnect.nyc/home

NIA ExpandED offers extended opportunities for students to engage in enrichment courses in the arts and sciences as well as provide them with academic support.  The program will run from 2:20 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  

We ask that families be respectful of the program's end time. The NIA ExpandED Program will provide support with student assignments  as well as programs that build character, social and emotional growth, community awareness, appreciation for the arts and opportunities to build academic success.  For more information or to contact our program director Learta Haliti, please call (718) 236-7071 ext. 1032.
