The Non-Negotiable Rules of P.S.186

  1. Attend school daily and arrive on time.
  2. Leave all outer clothing in your classroom closet.
  3. Enter the room quietly, take your assigned seat, and begin work immediately.
  4. Be prepared to work every day. Bring notebooks, assigned textbooks, pencils, pens, crayons, glue and whatever tools are required for learning.
  1. Complete homework nightly and have a parent/guardian review or sign it.
  2. Eat only in the cafeteria. Gum chewing is prohibited even in the cafeteria.
  3. Make sure cell phones, ipods, and other electronic devices are turned off and put away in your bookbag.
  4. Keep your desk area clean and organized.
  5. Do not engage in physical or verbal violence. Learn to disagree without being disagreeable. 
  1. Respect the building. Do not graffiti or deface any part of the building. Keep bathrooms clean for yourself and others.
  1. Hats are not to be worn in the building.
  2. Be responsible for yourself, your belongings and your actions.
  3. Respect yourself and respect others. Be considerate of everyone in our school building.
  1. Treat others as you would want to be treated. Speak nicely to one another and do not use curse words or inappropriate language.
  1. Safety comes first! Make sure that you are not behaving in a way that may be harmful to yourself or others.


Consequences for breaking school wide rules may include:

  • The child may receive lunch detention
  • The parent will receive either a letter or phone call regarding the child’s behavior
  • The teacher may hold a conference with the parent and /or the student
  • The assistant principal will hold a conference with the teacher, parent and/or student
  • A guidance conference may be held which may lead to one of the following: student removal, principal suspension, or superintendent’s suspension.
